Forum:Hip new channel for all you cool cats and kittens
Hello,
I am proposing we add a new channel to the off-topic section of Discord, for off-topic discussion (#offtopic? #offtopic-discussion? name editable by admins so you can still have some topical fun with it?).
Currently (and, well really, has been since its creation), the meme channel is majorly centered around off-topic discussion, rather than its intended use for memes and shitposts. While we do have #general, it makes sense to have a less-visible, and nsfw-marked channel to have this off-topic discussion in.
Discussion
Support - As nominator. I'm in many servers that have both #general and #off-topic, with #general serving more as the first landing space for new people to Discord. I can understand why people don't want to have discussion on more touchy subjects (or, yknow *rice purity and bdsm tests*) in such place, so having this new channel would solve that. Oppose - Memes is simply incorrectly named, there is a nsfw, offtopic discussion channel already. Elaine (talk) 22:25, 13 April 2021 (UTC)
- Then we should have a memes channel, merging different subjects into one fat channel that is (presumably) the most active channel in the whole of the server isn't the solution here, imo. The same argument could have been made prior to the #other-games channel being made, and that channel is super active & works great. Also copying a point over here that Lenny made that I agree with - " I think there's good value in it, giving people a place to dump memes without feeling like they're disrupting whatever conversations are going on.". Oppose - I've only ever really seen you and Kelsey complain about conversations happening in the memes channel, and it's almost always about conversations that have stemmed from memes that got posted, or Kelsey complaining about people just saying hi to each other. I don't think these conversations are in any way an issue, I think the only issues that have actually happened have come from your own complaints causing arguments rather than the actual conversations happening. - I'm not quite sure where you get the impression that the conversations 'almost always' stem from memes that get posted - I can almost guarantee this isn't the case a lot of the time. So, it's not an issue when multiple people take issue with it just because not everyone does? This isn't refuting the point made here that the channel is not used for its intended purpose. - Yes, 2 people taking issue with conversations that happen shouldn't override the fact that nobody else has issues with it and multiple people have issues with your suggestion. I don't really care about the channel's intended purpose, what people use it for right now, and have for several years, is way more important to me and shapes it's purpose anyways.

Closed - Star attempted to post her withdrawal statement but thread was unavailable at the time. -Legaia 2 Pla ᴛ · ʟ · ᴄ 22:49, 13 April 2021 (UTC)
