Forum:Change Wiki-admins colors on Discord
A discussion regarding the color scheme of adminship roles on our discord recently came up (it was also mentioned in Forum:Reorder Admins on Discord). The main issue is the pt-br wiki admin
and the osrs wiki admin
are really hard to see on the Dark mode of the discord app/site (see table 1 below).
Table 1 - Current roles and colors

Table 2 - New Admin colors proposal
A proposal came out to fix the sysop roles: change the colors to match the site's thematic (OldSchool RuneScape Wiki, RuneScape Wiki, PT-BR RuneScape Wiki and RuneScape Classic Wiki), the colors were based on the favicon icon of each site and the PT-BR was based off the flag of Brazil (to keep them different from RS Wiki Admins.) See Table 2 below for some examples.
Iiii_I_I_I proposed a color scheme based on the site's background color: a light bluish-purple for PT-BR wiki and a Green tone for RSC wiki.
Role | Maximus | Iiii_I_I_I | |||
---|---|---|---|---|---|

Table 3 - New Bureaucrat colors proposal
By changing the sysop colors, the bureaucrats colors don't match their roles, and a second discussion came up: do we need separate colors for crats?
If we do keep crats as a separate color, the table below suggeste lighter variants of the colors suggested above for sysop admins. This still keeps them different while still being part of that wiki's color scheme.
Role | Light Mode | Dark Mode |

Discussion
Support Iiii_I_I_I's color scheme & new crats colors Comment - I support Iiii's color scheme and get rid of Crats colors per: New people don't need help from a Beaurecrat they can't have from an Admin and whoever needs to ping a Crat probably know who they are, so it's easier just to ping them (as changing the colors won't make them unpingable. Based on this, I like the idea of using the proposed OSW and RSW Crats color as the OSW and RSW Admin colors. The full scheme would be like this:
Role | Maximus | |
---|---|---|
Light Mode | Dark Mode | |
rs wiki admins & rs wiki bureaucrats
|
Maximus Gugu | Maximus Gugu |
osrs wiki admins & osrs wiki bureaucrats

Maximus Gugu | Maximus Gugu |

Support - I like these ^ Meeeeerds msg 23:58, 7 January 2021 (UTC)- Support - I like the blue and the brown, though I think green for pt-br and grey for rsc clash less with the purple from events team (following discord discussion). Meeeeerds msg 00:28, 8 January 2021 (UTC)
Comment - I think the second set of colors is pretty good, except the OSRS one is too much of a burnt orange and not really much of a brown. I also think we should just eliminate bureaucrat colors unless someone has a reason why giving them a different color is useful. ʞooɔ 22:51, 7 January 2021 (UTC)
- Because we are "elusive beast[s]" and should be more eye-catching to better reward those who offer "'crat treats". cqm talk 11:41, 9 January 2021 (UTC)
Question - Do we often run into issues with people pinging or messaging the wrong wiki's admins for their issues? Just trying to figure out the motivation behind making the different admin roles more distinct. BigDiesel2m (talk) 00:02, 8 January 2021 (UTC)
- Comment - It doesn't really happen, but different colors help identifying different admins in a channel like
#geral
,#rs
or#meta-discussion
. It's not much, but it's easier than clicking on everyone with the same color to see which wiki they are admins. It doesn't really have any cons in having different colors, I believe. Gugu (Talk) 16:27, 8 January 2021 (UTC)
Support iiiiiii's table - I like 7i's colours the most I think, that does bring up events team's colour clashing but they're not active and idk if they even need a visible colour given so many of them are already hidden behind admin roles so idc really.
Oh also, Support removing bearcat colours cause the only time they need to be pinged (to give new admins admin usergroup and new bots bot usergroup) are by people already familiar with the role being there Crow 17:18, 8 January 2021 (UTC)
Support table 2, steve's version - I'd like to see events team colours also changed alongside this because otherwise the two purples will be too confusing and defeating the entire point of this thread. And +1 on what Crow said regarding bearcat colours above. Talk-to Kelsey 17:25, 8 January 2021 (UTC)
Support - new colours and I see no reason why admins + crats shouldn't be combined to make things simpler at the same time. IsobelJ (talk) 19:08, 8 January 2021 (UTC)
Support i7's table - Thematically it just makes sense. Also support changing the event team color to something different as well, and no bearcats. Hephaestus 19:23, 8 January 2021 (UTC)
Support my colors and support merging bureaucrats with admin colors. RE: possible confusion between the two purples -- I think the PTBR wiki definitely takes precedence over the Events Team, which should switch to some other color (pink for that pink skirts connection?). --Iiii I I I 23:28, 8 January 2021 (UTC)
Support steve colors - I'm fine with those colors or any similar variant and support combining bureaucrat color with admins. Riblet15 (talk) 23:49, 8 January 2021 (UTC)
Support I's colors - Neutral on the bureaucrats colors. Elessar2 (talk) 12:34, 9 January 2021 (UTC)
Support i's colours - Also don't think bearcats need different colours. BlackHawk (Talk) 17:36, 9 January 2021 (UTC)
Support steve's colors, but - we should use the lighter versions designed for rs/osrs bureaucrats for rs/osrs admins. I think those colors are strictly more thematic and more visible than the darker admin ones. I would like to see an explicit idea of what we want to do with the ET role. ʞooɔ 18:40, 9 January 2021 (UTC)
- Comment/RE - I support the idea of using both colors as the wiki admins too, as mentioned earlier. About the Evets Team, I think changing them to Pink or Default Gray are nice options, since most ET peeps are already admins and the new color wouldn't be that visible anyway. Support Iiii I I I's colours, support combining crats and admins, support changing events to other colour - // Salix // Talk-to Salix // 10:29, 11 January 2021 (UTC)
Support 7i, combine crats and admin - I wouldn't mind the grey being used, but color is life. The suggested #ff8ffb for events looks good enough. FjaraTalk 16:41, 14 January 2021 (UTC)
Support combining crats and admins, oppose-ish other color changes - I'm just not convinced there's any issue with confusion between different admin roles. I feel like it's not really a big issue if an admin for one wiki speaks with some level of authority in another wiki's discord channel, and in channels where conversations between admins are common (such as #meta-discussion) I think the existing admin colors are distinct enough to tell apart if it really matters. In short, most the time I think it matters more that the person saying something is an admin of any kind, rather than an admin of a specific wiki. Hopefully I'm getting my point across, but if something doesn't make sense feel free to ask and I'll try to clarify. :) With regards to bureaucrat colors, as the crat-admin distinction is most relevant for determining consensus in RfAs, I don't see a need to separate them from other admins in discord. BigDiesel2m (talk) 19:13, 14 January 2021 (UTC)
Comment - I think we got to a consensus over the last two weeks. The general consensus seems to merge Crats and Admins and using Iiii's colors. Is anyone opposed to using the proposed crats colors as the new RSWiki and OSWiki admins or the new ET color? Final colors would be:
